March 3rd 1-3pm spring Reception to Meet the Artists

Zohar Gitlis, a Maryland native, now residing in Atlantic City, NJ, is an artist that looks within herself as influence to her art..   Her mom, a teacher of art and artist herself, is one of Zohar’s biggest influences. She shows this in her painting Madonna: Mother and Daughter which is of Zohar’s mother holding her in her arms. Although Zohar may not follow art in the future a possibility of teaching art may be.

Zohar is also influenced by Kiki Smith whose work focuses on such topics as anatomy, self-portraiture, nature, and female iconography which Zohar uses in much of her work. “All my work is a self-portrait of the soul” say Zohar.  Using inner self and spirituality Zohar produces much of her work ranging from ceramics, charcoal and found pieces.
